24 hour Carp match on King Vincents

KingVincents Lake on the Somerley complex was the venue for the first Christchurch Angling Club 24 hour carp match.

On the Saturday the fishing started off quite slow, probably due to the fine and sunny weather with very little wind. It was not a problem and it gave everyone a chance to settle in and for the normal banta to take place. It also gave a good opportunity for the adult members and bailiffs to check that the juniors were safe and comfortable, ready for the long night ahead.

The match started with most of the fish coming from the deeper water but catches increased towards the Kings end of the lake as night fell.

The burgers Saturday night and bacon and sausage rolls Sunday morning along with hot drinks delivered to the swims were well received. It had been quite some time since some of the fishermen had received breakfast in bed, however, papers were extra !

The senior section was a neck and neck race between Ross Vermaak and Jonathan Martin untill the final whistle although Jack Mitchell managed to pull back to within 9 pounds of second place to take third.

At the whistle Ross had managed to edge in front and take first place with Jonathan in second. Well done to Jonathan for also taking the biggest fish trophy with a common of 17.8lb

Winner of the 16 and under section was Sam Prior who fished well to take first place.

All competitors went home with a prize from the prize table regardless of their position with some great prizes and donations from our local tackle shops.
A big thank you to all shops for their contributions especially Richard at Ringwood Tackle for donating some great prizes.

Thank you to all who fished the match for making it a great success and very enjoyable.
Thanks also to the organizers of the event and for the help given during the match to Steve Gibson, Tony and Dave Perkins, John Turner, Andy White, and young Harry Flory
Without Their help the match would not have been possible.

After such a successful trial I am sure we will be having more carp matches in the future with a series or knockout having already being suggested.
Well done and thanks again to all involved and keep your eyes open for future match dates that will be advertised on the website and in tackle shops.
