GAME FIXTURE LIST 2007

All matches are fished in the best of fun. In general each person fishes about 30mins per swim and then on the sound of a buzzer will move two swims around the lakes. This gives everyone the opportunity to fish all the way round both lakes. Only 1 fish can be taken from a swim per angler. Points are awarded on weight of fish caught and if the limit is reached, a time bonus is added.
Matches with BBQ's require pre-booking to assist with the numbers to be catered for.

Senior Match Reports

8th Senior Club Match (Lower Stour - 6th January)
Fourteen members fished from above Iford Bridge to Mexe Fence. With the river carrying some floodwater and a frosty morning the fish did not oblige and Fred Kirtley ran our a comfortable(?) winner with a single small bream from just above Mexe Fence. Just to remind members - our last (9th) Club Match of the series will be held 3rd February, Whitemoor Fisheries (next door to our Whitesheet Trout Fishery).
1st Fred Kirtley 1lb 6oz
2nd Ivor Brittain 15oz
3rd Julian Taylor 4oz
4th Vic Dias 3oz
5th (all with 1 oz!) Eddie Harrison/Jon Bass/Brian Hanson/Dave George

Christmas Fur & Feather Match (9th December)
Thirty nine members attended this annual match which had to be switched to Holtwood/Wedgehill from a flooded river. The lakes were full to overflowing and there was concern that the fishing would suffer, but nearly all competitors weighed -in. After the match the table full of prizes organised by Eddie Harrison were presented by Vice Chairman Ian May. A raffle to fund new weigh slings resulted in 59 towards their cost, thanks to Steve Gibson for offering to sell the tickets and members for buying them! Wedgehill middle lake produced the winner and the best average weights, whilst Millers Pool at Holtwood yielded second and sixth place. Some familiar names feature in the top six, taking reasonable catches of carp. The exception being Jack Rumball who concentrated on silver fish and was rewarded by a fantastic 2lb roach at Wedgehill. Another good specimen was a 5lb 2oz chub to Steve Gibson, again from Wedgehill. This fishery has the appearance of being lightly fished in recent months and is well worth a trip in the next mild spell, if the river is flooded.
1st Julian Taylor 30lb 4oz
2nd Mike Dean 28lb 4oz
3rd Jack Rumball 23lb 9oz
4th Nigel Fitzgerald 23lb 7oz
5th Terry Hiscock 23lb 6oz
6th Dave George 23lb 0oz

Matchmens Memorial (Holtwood, 11th November)
Thirteen members attended and most enjoyed good sport with carp. The day started with a strong northly wind which dropped away late in the afternoon. John Pole was a comfortable winner from the dam on Bascombes (middle pool), taking carp throughout the match on long pole fished to an island. Steve Hemming had a slow start but finished strongly for second place using similar tactics on Millers Pool (bottom pond). Eddie Harrison smashed his pole but still landed a double-figure carp plus many smaller ones from Bascombes Pool.
1st John Pole 78lb 0oz
2nd Steve Hemming 52lb 10oz
3rd Eddie Harrison 51lb 0oz
4th Chris Albiston 46lb 11oz
5th Mike Dean 30lb 1oz
6th Nathan Fox 28lb 1oz

28th October - Beamont Cup 2nd Leg (Lower Stour)
CAC hosted this match attended by 24 representatives from Ringwood, Wimborne, Wareham and CAC. It was a wet and windy day that produced an excellent winning catch of mainly roach for Mike Dean (CAC) at the top of the Iford Lane Pony Field. Steve Nadin (CAC) was nearby for second with a similar catch of quality roach and Andy Miller (Wareham) took roach and dace from just upstream of Iford Bridge. The team points were dominated by Wareham who finished 20 ahead of CAC, giving them an aggregate win over the two matches by around 30 points. The Beamont Cup was presented to Wareham during the after-match meal enjoyed at the Owls Nest, Parley. Thanks to those who helped on the day. Meridians once again failed to give good catches despite recent roach sport enjoyed earlier in the week by members.
1st Mike Dean 45lb
2nd Steve Nadin 25lb 8oz
3rd Andy Miller 22lb 12oz

Over-Sixties Match Series 2007
This year more than 30 members participated in a friendly series of five matches that gave good sport to many and a bit of fun for all. The Series contributed 123 to Club funds and was well organised by Mick Maidment and Alan Seaward, helped on every occasion by Alan Sellars.
Overall winner this year, by a single point, was Alan Bates who narrowly beat last years winner Ivor Brittain into second place. Mick Maidment finished third, had the highest winning weight during the series and must regret losing several big fish in the matches.
So a big thanks particularly to Mick Maidment, who kept us informed of fixture and start time changes. Hopefully, the same team will organise another series in 2008. Remember that all members over sixty are welcome to have a go, you just need to book-in beforehand so pegging and the draw can be organised efficiently.

7th Club Match (Lower Stour - 30th Sept)
Twenty two members attended and three areas were pegged, above Iford, the Pony Fields/Mexe fence and Meridians. Despite the same building tide as the previous match the fish had temporarily deserted the Meridians area. The good clearance work and swim renovation at Meridians now gives good access to the pegs, a big thanks to the fishery maintenance team in that area. Julian Taylor and John Pole took good catches of roach from the high bank on the Pony Field. Reasonable catches were made above Iford and down towards Mexe fence. Non-members were fishing above Iford and on the Dumps, hopefully with the colder weather these casual anglers will be moved on when more of our members are on the water to take advantage of the seasonal improvement in fishing. Due to a misunderstanding, some anglers above Iford fished for an extra hour. Nigel Hayes won the section with 10lb 4oz but is excluded from the official placings.
1st Julian Taylor 26lb 8oz
2nd John Pole 20lb 4oz
3rd Mick Maidment 10lb 10oz
4th Brian Hayes 9lb 9oz
5th Nigel Fitzgerald 7lb 0oz
6th Steve Hemming 6lb 12oz

6th Club Match (Lower Stour - 30th Sept)
Twenty one members attended and three areas were pegged, above Iford, the Pony Fields/Mexe fence and Meridians. Each area provided one of the top three weights and roach dominated the excellent catches, though as usual, some pegs gave small catches. A very high spring tide put some areas at Meridians underwater restricting which pegs could be used. Some good clearance work and swim renovation has started but many areas are unfishable largely because few mambers use this fishery in the summer. Disturbance by boats of all types was still a problem even though we are into autumn, hopefully things will improve now for the forthcoming matches. Nigel Fitzgerald had an easy win fishing at half-depth near the top of the Pony Field. Chris Albiston suffered a broken rod part way through but resorted to a 17ft rod to take roach and small chub above the wall at Iford. Jon Bass took small roach all day from the 'tins' at the top of Meridians and would have been overtaken by Eric North at the next peg if Eric had avoided frequent line tangles.
1st Nigel Fitzgerald 31lb 2oz
2nd Chris Albiston 18lb 14oz
3rd Jon Bass 18lb 3oz
4th Eric North 17lb 12oz
5th Terry Hiscock 16lb 0.5oz
6th Eddie Harrison 15lb 8oz

5th Club Match (Meadow Lake - 2nd September)
Meadow Lake has been producing plenty of bream to carp anglers in recent weeks, so hopes were high for the 15 members that drew for pegs around Canada Point or the NW bank (excluding Sibleys). Unfortunately two members turned up without booking-in through the tackle shops, so were unable to fish as the pegs were already set out around the night-fishing pegs. Please always remember to book-in, to avoid disappointment. We peg the exact number attending to avoid the possibility of having good pegs left after the draw.

All day Dave George concentrated on the feeder, using up his bait left over from the previous days 'National'. A catch of skimmer bream put him clear of Nathan Fox, with similar fish. Steve Hemming took a mix of small fish plus a roach of 1lb 4oz on the pole and a few skimmers on the feeder. Top weights were all on the NW bank past Sibleys. Overall, a very close contest not dominated by the expected large bream.
1st Dave George 15lb 0oz
2nd Nathan Fox 12lb 15oz
3rd Steve Hemming 12lb 5oz
4th Chris Albiston 11lb 8oz
5th Mick Maidment 10lb 8oz
6th Julian Taylor 9lb 9oz

4th Senior Club Match (Breach Pond - 26th August)
Fifteen members competed in the bright sunshine. All but two were pegged on the west side nearest the car park. Bream proved hard to catch in the relatively clear water, but Terry Hiscock used all his experience to find a shoal willing to feed in the shade of a bush on peg 3, Terry took most of his fish in the second half of the match. At the next peg (2), junior member Luke Hancock (14) also made a slow start but eventually got the fish feeding well near the surface on the long pole. At other end of the pond Jem Turner worked hard for small fish beside the lilies fishing from the long platform in the bay.
1st Terry Hiscock 49lb 6oz
2nd Luke Hancock 37lb 0oz
3rd Jem Turner 25lb 8oz
4th Steve Hemming 19lb 6oz
5th Jon Bass 17lb 2oz
6th Steve Nadin 12lb 0oz

3rd Over-60s Match (King Vincents - 23rd August)
Another well-supported event with around 25 members spread round this popular fishery. Unfortunately some day tickets had been sold and the best pegs were not available. Carp were scarce and most catches included skimmer bream, roach and rudd. Alan Bates on peg 39 took sizable skimmers from the start, using float-fished maggot on the pole and continued to catch steadily throughout the match. On the opposite bank at peg 19 Brian Moore used the feeder to take bream and one small carp, finishing a close second to Alan. Near the sanctuary on peg 23 Jon Bass took skimmers, rudd and a crucian on the feeder. Several weights between 8-12lb were recorded and a few catches were returned un-weighed.
1st Alan Bates 26lb 12oz
2nd Brian Moore 25lb 7oz
3rd Jon Bass 18lb 6oz
4th John Clayton 13lb 3oz
5th Jack Rumball 12lb 8oz

Lions Charity Match (King Vincents, 8th August)
This mid-week match was supported by 12 members and raised 60 for the Christchurch Lions Charity. A big thanks to those members that contributed. The fishing was moderate by recent standards with only two carp landed and few bream willing to feed in the bright sunshine. Most weights consisted of small rudd. Colin Mapstone was the exception, taking large skimmer bream on the feeder and also long pole from peg 20. As attendance was quite low only half the lake was used with the high and low pegs left available for pleasure anglers.
1st Colin Mapstone 25lb 15oz
2nd Mike Dean 19lb 15oz
3rd Eddie Harrison 18lb 8oz
4th Mick Maidment 18lb 4oz
5th Steve Nadin 17lb 8oz

3rd Club Match (Holtwood, 5th August)
Following on from the Veterans Match on the Wednesday, all three Holtwood ponds fished much better on the Sunday. There were four wieghts over fifty pounds from Millers Pool, led by Chris Albiston who initially targeted small fish before using a long pole to take carp close to the island. Eddie Harrison took carp steadily through the match from the top pond (Shambles). Colin Mapstone got off to a slow start but made up for lost time later in the match, again using a long pole to fish against the island reeds. Pegged between Chris and Colin, Mick Maidment came a close fourth using a small waggler float on rod and reel. Twenty three members fished and enjoyed some good sport.
1st Chris Albiston 73lb 14oz
2nd Eddie Harrison 61lb 3oz
3rd Colin Mapstone 58lb 13oz
4th Mick Maidment 58lb 4oz
5th Mike Dean 51lb 8oz
6th Dave George 47lb 0oz

John Miller Memorial Match (Vetrans Match)
Thanks to Mick Maidment for organising this.
Winner on the day from Shambles (the top pond) was Jack Rumball (31lb 12oz), second from Bascombe Pool (middle pond) was Eric North with 27lb 3oz, third was Ray(?) Carter (Shambles) with 22lb. Plenty of young carp were caught (1-2oz) from last years spawning, the only dissapointment was the poor catches from the usually reliable Millers Pool.

1st Club Match - Breach Pond (24.06.07)
1st Chris Albiston 39lb 4oz
2nd Terry Hiscock 38lb 12oz
3rd Brian Hayes 34lb
4th Nigel Hayes 18lb 4oz
5th Anton Burns 14lb 15oz
6th Mick Maidment 13lb 6oz

Eighteen fished through steady drizzle with mixed results. Most were pegged in the low numbers on the car park side, but five were on the opposite bank and it yielded 2nd and 3rd placings to everyone surprise. Most bream were taken at the south end of the lake (lowest and highest peg numbers). Several members struggled to catch from the normally reliable pegs 9-12. If you fancy a visit to Breach, look for an area with cloudy water as the bream will be close by. Chris Albiston (peg 4) started on the method feeder, taking bream one after another in the first hour, then they switched off and he watched Terry Hiscock (peg 30) fishing the pole on the opposite side steadily catch him up. Terry lost a big bream at the net which could have won him the match. Brian Hayes took a nice catch of bream, again on the method feeder

Spring Series - overall results.
We had the first two matches on Breach Pond which yielded reasonable weights of bream with over 30lb needed by the winners (Brian Hayes and Nigel Hayes). The third and fourth matches were on May evenings at Holtwood and most members struggled to catch in the first one, Mike Dean ran out an easy winner with over 38lb from the dam on Bascombes Pool (middle).

The last match unfortunately clashed with the European Cup Final and attracted only six members, partly because only three had a realistic chance of winning the Series. Eddie Harrison won a close encounter and drew the 'Golden Peg' so his 35lb was very rewarding, but he was unable to overtake Chris Albiston and Mike Dean (overall winner) in the Series.
Our thanks go to Maywood Kitchens (Ringwood) who generously sponsored the Series.
